This is a really minor point unrelated to the murder:

Can someone tell me what the joke is about the millions of
donuts that are always neatly organized and stacked whenever the
sherrif and his men are meeting? 

In the pilot, right before Cooper went to sleep he was in the police
station with Truman and there must have been 50 donuts layed out. You`ll
see this again in this weeks episode (that's not a real spoiler, don't worry).
