I think we may be missing something even more important.  If you listen very
closely to what was said, you hear that he is saying:

		"She's dead, JIM."

This sheds a whole new light on everything.  Perhaps the reason Audrey did not
react emotionally to Laura's death was because she is a Vulcan.  Perhaps Laura
had been split in two via a transporter accident into the "good" Laura and the
"bad" Laura.  Perhaps the donuts are actually tribbles.

The possibilities are endless.
"Captain's Log, Stardate 4297.6:  This is DAMN good coffee."
