Perhaps this is what is meant when it is said that the mystery will not be solved, but we (the audience) will be able to figure ouot who the killer is. It's an interesting device, providing clues to the audience that the characters cannot make use of for "real world" practicality reasons. -- Look for significance where there's none intended, and you will surely find it.
