Before this goes too much farther, I never said that Tim Burton was the 
director.  I'm not quite sure who *did* say that...it's unimportant.  I 
just said that I liked the direction ok.  I *did* know that it was Tim 
*Hunter*, but I gotta admit that I wasn't sure whether he directed "River's 
Edge" or not.  At any rate, I stand by my previous statement:  the 5/3 
episode was the best of the non-Lynch directed episodes so far.

Maybe we didn't see some of our "favorite character quirks" because Hunter
wanted to make the characters his own in some way (as somebody else 
suggested).  Also, maybe he realized that his quirks and Lynch's quirks
are so different that any such "homage" would fall flat, much as it
did in the first episode that Mr. L. did not direct.  Still...if Hunter
directed "River's Edge," he's used to directing quirky characters, like
those played by Crispin Glover and Dennis Hopper....
