I considered and rejected this possibility before I posted the "Two Tapes" article. The changes (some of them, anyway) seemed focussed on downplaying Laura's relationship to Jacoby. Others seemed to be made because of the length of the tape. What I failed to consider was the "duelling directors" problem on TP, which may be responsible for a lot of the discontinuities people have pointed out. If the director of Ep. 7 decided to change the script a bit when they were doing the voice-over for that segment, he or she should be shot. That tape appeared to be important evidence when it came to light in Ep. 1 - twitting around with it this way is very annoying, if that's what happened. Now the problem is, we still don't know whether the ending of the tape that we heard in Ep. 7 is the same thing that Jacoby heard in Ep. 1. It will be both amusing and frustrating if, when Cooper listens to the tape, we get a third version. -- Dave Mack
