When Josie and Sheriff Truman are meeting later he mentions that it happened about 24 hours ago. The water looked at the same level when he said this as when the body was found. Either the level was higher when the body was put in (and apparently no other time since?) or the body was carried to where it was found. Perhaps it was a "warning" to someone at the house, or else someone at the house who was involved in the killing thought that putting the body there would throw suspicion away from him/her. -Doug Elrod (L4oj@vax5.cit.cornell.edu, L4oj@CORNELLA.BITNET)
