However, on this point, there is an alternate explanation of Dr. Jacoby having the "half-heart" necklace. Those things are rather common, and all match the same way. As long as Laura is seeing more than one guy, why not "give her heart" to more than one? Each one of them sees her half and thinks it matches only his, and I dare say that James and Dr. Jacoby don't travel in the same circles, so there's little risk of them finding out.
