Given that nothing is certain in TP, I still think the voice of experience here is again of some use. Being a father of a teen of the female glands gives one a rather different perspective. Let's look at what we do know.... 1. Leland knows big daddy Horne fairly well, professionally and - probably - socially. He may well have some idea about the links between Horne and OEJ's and the perfume counter girls. 2. Leland is/was probably very close to his daughter and - despite what most teens think - knows his daughter better than than others do. 3. He knows that she was working at the perfume counter, knew what that probably meant, knew he should do SOMETHING, but either did not or failed to get Laura to quit. Given that I feel guilty when my kid gets a bruise in phys ed - like I could really have done anything about it - I can easily see old Leland doing a swan dive off of the old 10 meter into an empty mental abyss. The potential for lunacy runs deep among fathers of females. Don't believe me? Ask the daughters about their dads' behavior towards new boy friends (or slovenly, sexual perverts, as we see 'em.)
