Subject: 1st episode of the new season (what else?) From: minar@reed.bitnet (Nelson Minar,L08,x640,7776519) Date: 1990-10-01, 23:47 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks Reply-to: minar@reed.bitnet (Nelson Minar) Several questions come to mind from the new episode of Twin Peaks: Old man at the beginning of the show in Cooper's room - there's no way this could have been real, could it have been? He would have had to have seen Cooper's blood: afterall he could see when Cooper stuck his thumb up at him, and could presumably read the bill. Why was he so stupid about calling a doctor? Is Lynch just being insensitive to elderly people, or are we to presume that the old man is another hallucination of Cooper's? Broken Heart necklace - they carefully showed 3 shots of the broken heart necklace in a row, each time the necklace was on a different sort of cord (the new one was a piece of thin black rope, if I remember correctly) Are they getting REALLY sloppy with continuity? Laura's killer - are we really to believe that the scary/crazy guy who was leaning over Laura's dead body is the murderer (BOB?) It certainly seems like that was the intention - we hear him hitting Ronette, we see him looking at the dead Laura, it makes sense with the giant's clues, and it certainly was a scary little scene (a little strong for prime time, no?) But is Laura's killer really a character none of us has ever seen before? That would be very disappointing.. Catherine and Josie - they just disappear, huh? Presumably Josie left 'to go on an emergency trip' or 'to put some distance between her and the fire' Awfully suspicious to leave the day your mill burns down - it would be irrational for Josie to leave then. I think overall I was dissatisfied with the new season opener. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but there seem to be a lot of holes in the show. My final hope is that they don't run Twin Peaks into the ground - some of the subplots don't have much meat in them, and exploiting them would be really weak.
