Subject: Twin Peaks Symbolism From: horny@ucscb.ucsc.edu (Michael Kaye) Date: 1990-10-01, 22:15 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks Perhaps this post will seem a little off the deep end, but bear with me and keep an open mind. Twin peaks is filled with recurring symbols. In many, many scenes, the following images appear: Fish, Antlers, Indian Totems. Often these are on the wall, directly above characters heads. In the security box bank scene, antlers dominate the foreground. The examples are too numerous to list so I won't even try. If you look for this when you see TP again, you will be shocked at how common they are. I swear I'm not grasping at straws; there is nothing subtle about these symbols juxtaposition! They are not arbitrary and do tell us something, much in the same way that "Invitation to love" provides little clues. I'm almost certain that Fish represents Josie. The deer antlers represent Ben (and Jerry?) Horne. I don't know about the indian totems yet. If anyone thinks they know about these things, let me know. I would say that birds were symbolic of something, if I didn't think that they were directly representing the weirdness in twin peaks. (owls, ravens, nightengales, waldo the mynah...) There is definately something major to those birds... and the woods... ---Michael Kaye horny@ucscb.ucsc.edu
