I saw this.  I don't think it was a blood sample, though.  I assumed he had 
just gotten an injection, probably of a sedative.  This was just before the 
funeral, as I recall, and Benjamin had said earlier that "Leland couldn't be 
with us today."  His later actions certainly betrayed a need for some sedation.

He is watching INVITATION TO LOVE.  Madelaine enters the room in the same 
scene.  Anyone else notice that, whenever Jade/Emerald appears in ITL, Maddy
is in the very next shot when we return to TP!  Hmmm...
