maybe he meant that the downfall of the mill was 
masterminded by catherine?  she was (or so she
thought), after all, plotting with ben.  remember
when josie insists on shutting the mill down when
they find laura's body?  catherine says something
to the effect of "you're going to bankrupt the mill."
