The shadow floating across the curtains was one of a boot.  Coming 
after Laura's nose-touch, it's a rather obvious clue to her
cocaine-use.  (Remember the second season opener -- cocaine found
alongside a boot.  Also, "Leo needs a new pair of shoes", and the
scene where Leo is picking at his boots with a knife).
