SAMURAI was first by about six years. 

I wouldn't classify THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN as a "rip off", though. John
Sturges never made any attempt to hide the fact that he was remaking
SEVEN SAMURAI. It's not like he was hoping no one would notice. Kurosawa's
film wasn't exactly a closet classic. Sturges was simply doing an
"Americanized remake" in the same vein as some more modern films such
as THREE MEN AND A CRADLE == THREE MEN AND A BABY or COUSIN, COUSINE ==
COUSINS.

For a far more obvious remake, try watching YOJIMBO, followed by A FISTFUL
OF DOLLARS. The latter is a copy virtually down to the framing of the shots.
