I dissagree that this is an implication that he's never been shot before. I agree that he was probably knifed in Pittsburgh but the way he described being knifed was more sounding of someone who might have been shot before. In other words, I feel that maybe because he had been shot before it was not impossible for him to put the fear out of his mind. But it really doesn't matter, I agree that he was probably knifed, but I'm not sure about him not ever being shot before.
