Subject: face of evil From: alternat@watserv1.waterloo.edu (Ann Hodgins) Date: 1990-12-18, 09:49 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks According to a recent newspaper article, Frank Silva, who plays Killer Bob is "the total opposite" of Bob, according to a co-worker on the Peaks set. It interests me that such a gentle person as Frank Silva should be so believable (to some people) as an evil villian. Lynch chose him on looks alone. Why? I believe that the media and arts influence our character judgements about each other, and that tv has fostered prejudices based on physical appearance. This is not a criticism of Lynch/Frost because, after all, I can't expect them to hire real psychopaths to play evil characters. But it is worth mentioning now and again. For instance, at the time of the rise of Hitler and for a time afterward, many of the movie's villians were quite Jewish looking. a.h.
