Subject: The Pilot... From: halcyon!hikaru@sumax.seattleu.edu (Demosthenes) Date: 1990-12-26, 22:40 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks I have seen every single episode of this show in it's entirety. Now, at least. Up until a couple of days ago, I had never seen the entire pilot. The first time it was broadcast, I wasn't able to watch it, and the second time it was broadcast, my parents decided it wasn't important enough to tape (even though I had explicitly said to them "TAPE THIS OR DIE!!!!!"), consequently I missed about the first half hour. But a couple of days ago, I borrowed a friend's tape of it, and watched it beginning to end. And I realize just how much BETTER it was then. Or, at least, how much better it is when David Lynch directs. I also noticed that the fact that it had been shot in 1989 was quite obvious; all the characters looked quite different. Andy had longer hair, Cooper looked a lot shorter and was just slicking his hair back, Truman's hair wasn't as long or gray, Philip Gerard (contrary to popular belief, we DO see him in the pilot, even if for just a few seconds), Catherine (spelled Katharine in the credits) had curly hair, Leland and Ben had darker hair, Bobby had darker hair, and so on. And I also noticed that the answer had been staring us in the face the entire time - in fact, it was the very first theory put forth by her mother concerning her disappearance: "I bet she's with Leland." (don't falme me for misquoting, I don't remember the exact words) Nothing about BOB or MIKE or secret diaries, or anything like that. But the answer could have been figured out just by watching the pilot. All major characters were introduced, including the one-armed man; he gets into the elevator with Truman and Cooper, and T&C exchange sympathetic glances. (Except for Maddy, I suppose - she doesn't make an appearance until the 4th(?) episode) Of course, I'm telling you something you all probably knew already. But it wasn't something I knew until a couple of days ago... By the way, before I go, I do want to mention two things: When we first see the Double R, it is the sign of the Mar-T Cafe in North Bend, with a pathetic little "RR" tacked onto the sign, and the Mar-T part of the sign is in full view. Also - when Pete is first coming out of the house, onto the beach, the water and horizon are so obviously the Pacific Northwest I said immediately, "I've seen this before." :) ************************************************************************** "Mr. BOB, you've killed Theresa Banks, * Richard Barrett Laura Palmer, Jacques Renault, and * 18004 146th Ave NE Maddy Ferguson.
