Subject: Cross-dressers From: alternat@watserv1.waterloo.edu (Ann Hodgins) Date: 1991-01-24, 10:29 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks For some reason I'm really curious about why Dennis/Denise finds women's clothes "relaxing" considering that the women I know all feel that standard feminine garb is the opposite of relaxing. I've developed 4 theories so far: 1) perhpas the male role makes him tense for some reason and a female identity frees him from that tension. 2) perhaps keeping his mind occupied with trivial concerns like keeping his knees together, balancing on heels and keeping his hose on straight distracts him from more disturbing obsessions and worries. 3) perhaps he grew up with strong female models of behaviour and few if any male role models so he knows how women should act but does not know how to act as a male so acting like a male is a constant effort whereas acting like a woman is familiar, easy and relaxing. 4) perhaps as a man he is aware of the 'power' women have to cloud men's minds and he wants to add that power to his arsenal of effective weapons in his work. He is already a physically powerful, trained and armed FBI agent, but perhaps being sexually desirably to the men he works with makes him feel even more powerful and therefore more relaxed and confident. Just theories. I'm not really very confident about any of them. Feel free to jump in with other suggestions. For some reason I am really very curious about cross-dressing. a.h.
