Subject: 2/9: Hungarian Goulash From: George.Harris@samba.acs.unc.edu (George Harris) Date: 1991-02-16, 10:55 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks With regard to the language that Eckhart's assistant was speaking, I cast my vote for Hungarian (a non-Indo-European language, by the way [yes, I know that's irrelevant {or is it?}]), & I'm going to tell you why. In the scene prior to this one, when Pete & Coop are discussing this & that behind the swinging wooden door, Pete mentions that the girl @ the laundromat is apparently Hungarian & doesn't speak a word of English. Posit: Eckhart & Co. sent that coat back with Pete to set up Josie to take the fall. Possible holes in this theory: I think Pete mentioned the name of the Laundromat girl, who is a TP native, & Eckhart would have to know that the FBI has fibers from the coat as evidence in the shooting. Still, it's a nice idea. On the subject of Hungarian being non-indo-european, this would account for those familiar with slavic or germanic or whatever languages not being able to recognize it. I believe the only language that bears even a faint similarity to Hungarian is Finnish. Enough trivia.
