Subject: OFFICIAL COOP INFO (lots of it!) From: fi@grebyn.com (Fiona Oceanstar) Date: 1991-02-22, 10:39 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks *****REPORT ON CITIZENS OPPOSING THE OFFING OF PEAKS***** Please note: I've been mispelling the name of the organization in the headings of my previous postings. COOP = Citizens OpposING the Offing of Peaks (no quotes around Peaks) WHO'S IN CHARGE Keith Poston, COOP President 202-342-7247 The Great Northern 4532 19th St. North Arlington, Va. 22207 Call/write Keith for starter kits for your local COOP chapter, & for a long list of nationally based reporters in the entertain- ment field. "Serious inquiries only," he says, since he's footing the bill out of his own pocket. (I told him all of us at alt. tv.twin-peaks are extremely serious. (-: (-:) Michael Caputo, COOP Director 202-289-2834 Call Mike if you can't get hold of Keith for the above, and also call him with any ideas you have for spreading the word. WHAT'S HAPPENED SO FAR COOP just came into being in the past couple of days, the first chapter starting up here in Washington, D.C. Poston and Caputo, who are in close contact with David Lynch, brainstormed the idea, and they have a local radio station recruited to publicize the group in this area. Last night they had the first meeting of the group. They've designed the logo, which is the letters "COOP" with donuts for the O's, and last night they pressed their first four T-shirts. Two of those T's were for Keith and Mike, and the other two went immediately to David Lynch and Mark Frost, who were planning to wear them in a press conference this morning. (Did anyone see the broadcast?) Even as you read this, COOP is talking to CNN's "Entertainment Tonight," and there should be a segment of the show devoted to COOP--either tonight or in the near future. The reason for all this fancy footwork, says Capruto, is that "networks are influenced by organized material." So, in terms of all the calls and letters and faxes we're sending to ABC, Capruto wants "every single Peaks fan to sing from the same sheet of music, so that we come together as a choir, instead of being a lot of isolated shouting voices." Part of the plan for doing this is to obtain the official COOP logo and letterhead from Keith or Mike, so you can copy it a million times and send all your mailings out with that letterhead. After consultation with David Lynch, and asking him what *he* wants, the COOP co-founders have devised the following three-part strategy: 1) Bring the show back as soon as possible--like RIGHT NOW. 2) Move the show to Wednesday night (that's the night Lynch picked). 3) If all else fails, move it to another network. HOW TO FORM A LOCAL CHAPTER The COOP co-founders want as many chapters as possible to sprout up all over like weeds--big cities, small towns, hamlets, universities, convents, prisons, etc. To form a local COOP chapter, Mike Capruto says you should do the following: 1) Name yourself some officers President -- the spokesperson, person who talks to media Director -- the workhorse and organizer, person who does lots of faxes and keeps the info flowing 2) Call or write the national COOP headquarters (Keith Poston) for your logo, letterhead paper, and T-shirts. The T-shirts are $10 apiece: COOP "double donut" logo in white, on black background, in one size only (XL). They can also send you a long list of reporters from all over the nation who work in the entertainment fields-- good people to contact to publicize your COOP chapter. 3) If you live in the listening area of one of the radio stations listed below, call the contact person and tell them about your chapter, making your President available for interviews, etc. 4) If you have another station to propose for Mike's list, either call them directly to test out the idea, or call Mike for advice. He suggests that each area have just one official COOP station--which should be the one most likely to have Peaks fans as listeners--e.g., the one that plays Cruise and Badalamenti music. College stations are a good choice in university towns, for example. 5) Throw a fax-writing party. Get the word out to ABC and everyone else who needs to hear it. Have meetings, etc. Call local TV and newspaper reporters, and invite them to your party. Whatever else you can think of! 6) And (I don't need to tell y'all this one) post the info on your chapter (with local distribution) to the net. RADIO STATIONS ALREADY ENLISTED In addition to WHFS, a second station is spearheading the only other official chapter so far, in New York City. Here are the numbers and contact people, if you want to call/write/fax and tell these stations that you're excited about COOP (or whatever): WHFS (Baltimore/Washington area) Bob Young 8201 Corporate Dr. Suite 550 Landover, MD 20785 800-321-WHFS (voice) WDRE (New York City) Tom Calderone 516-832-9400 (voice) RADIO STATIONS TO CALL/FAX AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO JOIN COOP Mike Capruto tells me he's contacted 7 other stations nationwide, on the principle that the DJ's of "progressive" stations will be interested in, and effective at, getting out the news about COOP. The following list is the people at these stations to call/fax and tell them that you want to see them become the local info center for COOP. (They haven't decided if they're going to do it, yet, so your calls and faxes will make a difference--write to all of them, but if you're in their listening area, tell them so.) KBCO (Boulder, CO) Dennis Constantine 303-444-5600 (voice) 303-449-0357 (fax) KROQ (Los Angeles, CA) Andy Schuon 818-953-7667 (voice) 818-841-5903 (fax) XTRA (San Diego, CA) Kevin Stapleford 619-291-9191 (voice) 619-294-2916 (fax) KITS (San Francisco, CA) Richard Sands 415-626-1053 (voice) 415-552-3146 (fax) KTCZ (Minneapolis, MN) Lin Brehmer 612-339-0000 (voice) 612-333-2997 (fax) WFNX (Boston, MA) "Mad Max" 617-595-6200 (voice) 617-595-3810 (fax) WXRT (Chicago, IL) Norm Weiner 312-777-1700 (voice) 312-777-5031 (fax) FINAL THOUGHTS Whew! That's a lot of info. Please be sure to post corrections if any of these numbers are wrong. Either post to the group, or write to me, any other info you may have. I'm serving as "liaison" between alt.tv.twin-peaks and the Washington/Baltimore COOP chapter--whatever that means. :-) (How did I get *into* this, anyway? It all seemed to happen so fast this morning.) Fax Bob Iger. Fax those radio stations. Call right away for your COOP letterhead and do all your faxes with the logo on top of the page. Form your own chapter and become a local heroine/hero. :-) :-) --Fiona Oceanstar fi@grebyn.com
