There is not a VCR made that doesn't let you watch one show while you record another.  

If you normally select channels through a box from the cable company and BOTH shows are scrambled (pay), then you can't.  Otherwise you can.  If you select with the CATV's box then you might have it hooked up so that you can't, but it's not your VCR's fault.

Just ask the guy at the Radio Shack (although he may try to sell you some solder).
