VCRs do work that way when you're connected to an anal-retentive cable service that scrambles *all* their channels and rabbit ears don't work well in your particular area. This is the case in my area of Columbus. True - it's not the VCR's fault as the original post may imply, but the result is the same. Even the usual A-B switch solution won't work in my case since all the channels are scrambled this way. You have to rent a separate cable box to pull this off.
