My two cents' worth:

     I think the box contains a gun, or some such murder implement, which
Jones is going to use to kill Harry and frame Catherine with.

Forgive me if this is too short and sketchy; it's late and I want to go to
sleep -- I've spent the last 45 minutes wondering why I wasn't able to follow
