I don't think anyone would argue that any television show is more important
than 3 people's lives.

But tell me this: did those 3 lives depend on the country knowing about
the situation that very minute?  Would those lives have been in greater
jeopardy if the networks reported the incident ten minutes later? What
purpose was served by interrupting regular programming in progress instead
of waiting until the top of the hour?
