Regardless of how the moon's stages are produced, the moon moves so swiftly on its apparent course through the segments of the sky that it would not be a useful way to indicate a unique time or location. For instance, a full moon in Libra, say, must be fairly commonplace but an eclipse of the sun against Libra would happen once "in a blue moon". ;-) ann
