Life and death (even murder) are, from their elevated view, part of the natural cycle. There is some reason why this is more important, some bigger disaster that must be prevented. Although the giant is less articulate now, one thing about this appearance is that he actually seems to be bringing his message IN TIME for Cooper to do something about it. The first appearance was after the murder of Laura Palmer, and the giant could only help Cooper find clues. The appearance at the Roadhouse during Maddie's murder struck me as a sad acknowledgement of Cooper's inability to find the murderer before he could kill again. It would have been next to impossible for Cooper to understand the giant's meaning, and get to the Palmer house in time to save Maddie. This time, it is a warning, and if Cooper can catch his meaning in time (the writers will have to help him here, since the readers of the net might not have agreed on the meaning, even by June 10 :-)), he may actually be able to use the knowledge to forestall disaster. This seems as though the giant is actually increasing his power (perhaps as Cooper's psychic connection to the giant has grown, its usefulness to him is increasing). Barb Miller
