The only other explanation I could think up was that he was reciting part of a poem about Josie. I remember him doing this in at least one scene after her death. However, this doesn't explain his waving goodbye to a wall. I suppose that the scene was to alert alert viewers to the fact that Pete's one of the "gifted/damned." Also, perhaps to emphasize the nature of the shaking hands epidemic as supernatural. - Mark Cromwell
