Subject: More on Wheeler the Physicist From: rhaller@oregon.uoregon.edu Date: 1991-04-26, 10:08 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks More on J. (A.) Wheeler the physicist. According to Martin Gardner's book, 'The Relativity Explosion' (paperback p.173-174), "Wheeler has imagined [a] society living on a gigantic shell that has been built around a rotating black hole the size of a mustard seed. He has even worked out a scheme by which the garbage is dropped downward into the black abyss. The hole neatly disposes of the garbage, crushing it instantly out of existence, and politely sends back energy to supply all the needs of the civilization flourishing on the spherical shell." Talk about hi-tech recycling! Looks more and more like they must have had this Wheeler in mind when they came up with JJ's character. -Rich (A black hole has no hair) Haller
