Subject: Re: TP on Video. A thought. From: passn8@peg.UUCP Date: 1991-06-06, 14:41 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks Yes, the entire first series of TP is available as a two-tape rental job in Australia on PAL format, which is compatable with Britain, Germany, most of Asia and Africa, Scandinavia and some other parts of Europe. The tapes are packaged very handsomely with the Palmer residence's mantle-piece portrait of Laura gazing out at us on the front cover. Copyright legislation in Australia prohibits the retail sale, mail-order, or even rental outside of the Australian territory , of rental video products. I have friends in the industry who tell me that the distributor is not offering the product for sale (or "sell-through") at this stage, however it is slightly grey as to the legality of selling the tapes second hand, ie after the video rental library has recouped the purchase price of the product. These 'used' copies have been known to be on sale... So, it is possible to get the product, but as you can see, the copyright issue (and subsequent dangers of breach) is a little tricky to get around - caevat emptor - and most of us people in Australia involved in some kind of media business treat tricky copyright situations like the black plague... Further info: Series 2 (another 2 tapes) is due to be released by the same distributor very soon. No news on series 3, but since the last episode of series 2 was shown nationwide in Oz only last week, then the release is probably a couple of weeks away. Suggestions: Find a trusted friend in a large video library in your home country, and ask if they have any contacts in large Aussie video libraries, phone or fax that Aussie library and ask if they can sell you a 'used' copy. YOU SHOULD NOT PAY MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS !!! Otherwise, phone or fax the distributor directly, but my feeling is that they won't wanna know about you 'cause you could be a copyright thought-police stooge trying to bust them (it happens here!). It is after business hours at this time, so I couldn't find the distributor's name, but if you're really desparate, e-mail or respond to me and I'll be pleased to help out however I can.
