And you mean you DON'T think programmers (in theory, anyway) are paid to worry about what's on opposite shows they are thinking of running?! Well, surely it is too much to expect ABC to put program X in the schedule at a time when people interested in program X are MORE likely, rather than LESS likely, to watch it. If the idea is to get people to watch the program (say, that IS the idea of commercial television, is it not?) one would think programmers would have the brains to maximize their chances, not minimize them. Northern Exposure is already figuring as the primary maintenance mode for abandoned Twin Peaks junkies. It would have made MORE sense to put it opposite Cosby! -- they probably would have avoided splitting their own market.
