I agree with the first statement, but I don't agree that it was all that sudden that he showed up at the GN. Remember Sherrif Truman saying to Andy, "He's been in there for 10 hours..." or something like that. And then it was quite a long while after that (judging by Harry's appearance) when Coop and Annie suddenly showed up. I don't recall exactly when in the sequence of events the scene at the Hayward's occurred, but it could've been several hours before Doc was with Coop. And, as someone else mentioned, we don't know for certain Ben is dead.
