BUT, the possible movie continuation is from all the press last week of the possible continuation. I heard from a friend that it was a ploy to see if there would actually be interest in a movie (test the waters). You may be right about only Dale being able to rescue himself. As other posters have mentioned, perhaps his handing over his soul (if that has indeed happened) is due to an act of love, and as such is retrievable. And we do have a cast of potential heros to rescue him. Also, I think Annie may have passed a test herself....Maybe she'll have some triangular/diamond shaped tattoo to show for it (if that's what these signify). And if so, maybe she'll rescue Coop (or Booper, or CooBob...). And we have the Parcifal character in this as well, Andy. So, who knows if and when we'll ever have a sequel, but I want one, a damn good one.
