A couple of points: a) This is David Lynch you are talking about. Even before Twin Peaks, he had some major pull in the industry. I doubt he needs a reason to produce a movie (look at his previous works.) b) This is Twin Peaks you are talking about. Although the ratings sucked, those "in the know" know that this is a quality show which far surpassed the drivel on the networks in terms of watchability. (who'd want to go see Cosbys: the Movie.) Although Wild at Heart, Dune, and Blue Velvet, didn't rake in the big bucks, they held their own. And now Lynch is practically a household name. I think he would have no problem getting millions of Americans to check out the movie, even if it was the continuation of the cooBOBper storyline.
