In fact, the big screen may indeed be the correct medium to keep it going. I say this for several reasons. One, is that one of the reasons (IMHO) that Twin peaks lost so much steam is that Lynch and Frost started to lose interest and left the writing and direction of the show to their staff. Movies are different than TV. Movies require a fairly intense focus for a limited period of time. In a TV series, this focus must be prolonged for an entire season... which was far too long for Lynch and Frost to maintain. After all, they had other projects that they wanted to pursue. A TV series is a full time job where as a movie is simply another "project". Lynch sounds psyched to do this TP Movie...and because of that, I'll bet that the result is going to be pretty intense. As far as the movie not getting an audience, I believe Lynch was smart about making the movie a 'prequel'. TP had a real good following at the start, and all those TP fans who did not have the patience to keep up with the show till the end are CERTAINLY very familiar with the WKLP plot. (Lynch probably didn't really logically consider this issue, he probably just felt like dealing with the Laura Palmer story...after all, this was the story that inspired the season to begin with. He seems real close to that plot line). If done right, the movie, through the WKLP plot, could get old TP fans into the later plots of the series (Wyndom Earle, black lodge, etc. After all, there is a connection between it all), which will probably spawn a whole series of films. Oh...did I forget to mention the European popularity of the show. Even if the movie gets fair results at the box office in America...I'm sure it'll do well in Europe. Which will probably be enough to profit financially... Oh, and lastly, let's not forget the home video market. The same fans who rushed out to but the Secret Diary, the Coop Autobiography and other TP items..will certainly buy the video (if proced right). So in my opinion, although we may never see Twin peaks on TV again, it is far from doomed. -- -- jogle att!floyd!jogle jogle@floyd.att.com
