I watched the final episode with a girl I had recently broken up with, (kind of a reunion?). We figured we would talk afterwards. We sat for a while in stunned silence. We talked alittle, but soon said our good nights. We each agreed later that we were shaken beyond words. I was strongly depressed all week. I was mildly depressed for several. > >That disappointment with the course of the plot and the fate of the > >characters also, I believe, contributed to many folks' opinion of the > >show itself.... This may make you feel better, but I think it allows you to deny the unsettling idea that the end of TP reminds us of: YOU TOO can die, or loose it all, even your soul. Even if you're one of the good guys. Being good, or nice, or even "right" gives you no protection at all in and of itself. If you screw up, and the stakes are high enough, you may not get a second shot. Please, no flames about whether this idea is true or not, ("tomorrow's always another day..." and all that) the point is, there's not a man or woman on the planet who is not afraid that it's true. There's not a man or woman who doesn't at least sometimes fear that he or she hasn't ALREADY blown it. Even Agent Coop can blow it. And he may not get another chance. > >-- > >-larryy@apple.com > > > >"You wouldn't recognize a *subtle plan* if it painted itself purple, > >and danced naked upon a harpsichord, singing, 'Subtle Plans are Here Again'." > > - Edmund Blackadder ^^^^^^Write me down as another vote for the best quote!
