Since you are from bi-lingual Canada, perhaps you know a French or
French Canadian idiom that I'm not familiar with, but I'm pretty sure
that your translation is incorrect.  What you think he said would
translate as "I HAVE a solitary man", which really wouldn't make as
much sense as "I have a solitary soul."  (To say "I am a solitary
man", he would say something like "Je suis un homme solitaire", which
wouldn't sound the same at all).
