This may be one of the key speeches of the whole series. I think the Cooper autobiography hints that evil has been pursuing Coop since his earliest days, as symbolized toward the end of the book as the blue man. This would fit with Coop's BOBification at the end of the second season. Perhaps the whole Laura thing was part of a plot on the part of the forces of evil to draw Coop to Twin Peaks (much as, in the Exorcist, the possession was a ruse to set up a battle between Pazuzu (sp?) and the priest).
