Subject: European version - simple explanation?

Would anybody care to explain in a few words what the difference
between the US and European version is all about?
The reason I ask is that over here in the Netherlands we are just
up to episode 1004 now, and I hesitate to go and read the lengthy
explanation that's on the server - if it is really a difference
in the last episode (which I suspect from what I've seen up till
now) I guess it's full of spoilers for me.
