As best I can determine: The "third season" was a myth that started with the overseas airings. Some countries put in a season break between Leland Palmer's death and the next episodes. Others (like America) pre-empted the show so many times that it seemed that the second season was split in half. For the record for foreign posters -- there were only two seasons of Twin Peaks made. The first included a two-hour pilot and seven one-hour episodes, ending with Dale Cooper getting shot. The second included a two-hour premiere and twenty-one regular episodes, ending with "Hooooow's Annie???"
