Subject: Music: incl. Twin peaks "killer bob" sounds in "I promise" From: philfree@bigbang.Berkeley.EDU (Philip Lee Tanner) Date: 1991-09-30, 14:19 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks In article <21447@darkstar.ucsc.edu> kitty@ucscb.ucsc.edu (Kitty) writes: > > > > > >Lately I've been hearing a song on my local radio a lot called > >"I promise" by "when in rome". > > > >The song uses sound effects from Twin Peaks-- the sound they always > >play when killer BOB appears or something terrifying reveals itself. > >I wondered if anyone else noticed this? The song is actually called THE PROMISE. It was recorded in the UK (I think) in early 1988! I think it's one of those unsettling coincidences. I was just listening to that song yesterday. It never ocurred to me before, but Kitty is definitely right: the sounds are virtually identical. And it's such a nice sappy song too! Oh well, another song ruined by association... SPEAKING OF SUCH: a guy posted recently in reply to the (very well-done) bogus report of a second TP sndtrk. He asked about THE WORLD SPINS. Here's your answer: it was the song played at the end of the episode when Madeline Ferguson was having her little encounter with Bob. It countinued over the credits. It's on (really, it is) the Julee Cruise CD (FLOATING INTO THE NIGHT -- good name; think about it for a few minutes). Well, that's all for now, from the town famous for its mindless knee-jerk activism... Philip Lee Tanner, BASW 1992, 2QT2BSTR8.
