IMHO, that's pretty darn weak as a reference, considering that logging is a common activity where both stories are set. Also any owls, it's just not blatant enough. Seems they were slightly annoyed at being lumped together with TP as "an unusual high-quality tv show set in the [Nn]orthwest".... This was a way of underlining their differences! Northern Exposure, IMO, has much more in common with its' creators previous show, "St. Elsewhere", than with anything else I've seen. (Anybody remember Ed in the first episode -- "My favorite show is St. Elsewhere...") -- "There is no back alley, Corky. Women in this | Dan Hartung country have a choice! ... at least, I think | dhartung@chinet.chi.il.us they still do -- I haven't checked the paper | Birch Grove Software yet this morning." -- Murphy Brown
