Subject: Lynch's Style From: rhaller@phloem.uoregon.edu (Rich Haller) Date: 1991-10-12, 11:14 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks >From what I have read, Lynch likes to incorporate spontanous stuff that grabs his attention into the written script on the fly as it were. An example that appeared in an interview with Richard Beymer is that one day on the set, he had a new pair of shoes that were somewhat tight and started tap dancing to loosen them up. Lynch saw him and told him he was going to work it in. Sure enough when Leland came in singing "Mairzy Doats" as had been scripted, Lynch said, "that's it; here's where you dance" and we got the scene of Ben and Jerry dancing on the table while Leland sings. While visiting the "Fire Walk With Me" on location shooting I had the fortunate opportunity to watch Lynch interact with Jack Nance for a while. Jack had just arrived and they were chatting like old friends will. Lynch noticed the wristwatch that Jack was wearing and was fascinated by it. As I recall, he said something like "That's a real Las Vegas watch!" and commented to someone else, either an assistant director or his cinematographer, that they could make a whole character out of that watch and somet hing else I can't remember. (I think what he meant by 'a real Las Vegas watch' is a watch a 'high roller' at Vegas would wear. ) So, if that watch shows up somewhere in one of his movies, you read about it here first. By the way, I have a few more annecdotes from my visit and one of these days I'll post them here. Before 'blue hat' ran me off I got to stand quietly right next to Lynch and watch him interact with both Jack Nance and Joan Chen. It was a truly fascinating experience. -Rich Haller
