Lots of the names in TP are taken from famous noir films. The names of Laura Palmer, Waldo the bird and Dr. Lydecker are all from the classic film _Laura_ by Otto Preminger. Laura's cousin's name Madeline Ferguson came from Hitchcock's _Vertigo_. The insurance man in episode 1006 (Mr. Neff) comes from the film _Double Indemnity_. And if we extend the list to tv series, the name of the One-Armed Man, Phillip Michael Gerard, comes from the show "The Fugitive." -- David E.
