The ring does have some significance. If you read the book about Coop (My Life, My Tapes) it tells in there that the ring was his mothers (I think). She gave it to him (I cant remember exactly when) but it disappears one night when he has a dream about his mother, and returns later when he has another dream. You should read the book, it is definately worth it. Some wierd stuff and some funny stuff but I wont go into it here incase it spoils it for anyone. Donald Edwards
