Subject: TWIN PEAKS COMPETITION !!! From: timh@extro.ucc.su.OZ.AU (Timothy James Hatfield) Date: 1992-04-05, 06:26 Newsgroups: alt.tv.twin-peaks I've noticed recently on this group that a lot of people have been getting Twin Peaks "references" out of the most obscure, seemingly unrelated areas. Some of these "references" have been very well thought out/valid, while others are funny/downright stupid. Similarly, some people seem to take their "reference-gathering" quite seriously while others obviously know it often becomes a joke and treat it as such. Anyway enough preamble, I hereby announce what all the aforementioned people have been secretly waiting for ... The Twin Peaks Reference-Finding Competition -------------------------------------------- Basically the idea is to find as many REASONABLE Twin Peaks references as possible for each item in the given list. When I say REASONABLE, I mean referring to Twin Peaks in particular and not just life in general. For example if one of the items on the list was Joe Montana, it would not be valid to say as a reference: "Joe Montana is a person & there are also people in Twin Peaks", as this is too general. It WOULD be valid, though, to say: "Joe Montana is a quarterback and so was James Hurley in high school" (if this was in fact true in the show) or "Joe Montana plays for the 49ers and Mike Nelson wore a 49ers jacket in episode 2009" (again if this was in fact true). I think you get my meaning here. Of course, I don't want this to degenerate into a tedious Twin Peaks "fact-finding mission", so funny/ridiculous references are also welcome, again as long as they actually have something to do with Twin Peaks in particular. I expect that most of the answers I get will fall into one of two general categories: serious and silly. At the conclusion of the competition I will post the best references in both categories to the net for all to see and enjoy. So, without further ado, I CHALLENGE all you Peaks fanatics to come up with as many references as possible for each item on the following list (no apologies for some being rather obscure, but it has to be a challenge !!): 1. a crown of thorns 2. Las Vegas 3. The Lord Of The Rings [at least 1 *OBVIOUS* reference here ... :-) ] 4. Crocodile Dundee 5. ice hockey 6. Adolf Hitler 7. Disneyland 8. Stonehenge 9. chocolate bars 10. The North Pole Some Quick General Rules :- --------------------------- - please e-mail me your solutions rather than post them. PLEASE ... - don't bother racking your brains to think of something for all 10 things on on the list before you send your answer(s) to me. Just send me stuff whenever you think of it. It WOULD be convenient though, if as much stuff was sent at the one time as possible. - you may refer to any Twin Peaks material at all, eg. the secret diary, Coop's autobiography, fan magazines, Lynch stuff etc. You are not limited to the actual show and its script. - PRIZE: the possibility that your answer may be posted on the net; and the resulting adoration of the rest of the group !! :-) Enough from me, time all you Peaks geniuses (genii ??) took over. I look forward to your e-mailed replies to my challenge. May the best, most devoted fans win.
