I loved TP but hate most of the movies, and Parents was more like the latter, particularly in the enervating long-awkward-pause stakes (these also irritated me in the final ep of TP). It was a very odd film, combining (as Lynch often does) an obsessive sense of dangerous undercurrents in seemingly sedate settings with a rather saccharine view of suburbia which only seems partly ironic in intent. The music was *great*, and Sandy Dennis was wonderful, but in the end it didn't seem quite extreme or grotesque enough to achieve its ambitions. xx Matthew
