I would call it a decision to do the movie version differently from the Diary. They also handled the TB investigation differently from the Autobiography. In it, it is Coop who discovers the letter under the nail and there is no mention of the other agents. While having them isn't inconsistent, having them finding the letter is. As Emerson said (but is widely misquoted, so I will probably disgrace myself as well): "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." A true continuity error is how they handled the chess positions and the domino in the series, (though in the latter case, apparently the original domino disappeared from props). -Rich Haller
