Yes, they're the same general type, but there are three different purposes: Leland/BOB introduces us to the type, without revealing much (BOB is scary). Senor Droolcup and The Giant tell us more about the possession - it shows the man as separate from the "inhabbiting spirit." Gerard/MIKE reveal a lot more: Coop - and we - have been shown the scariness of Leland/BOB, been given a little more knowledge with the foreshadowing of The Giant by Senor Droolcup... This is the first time in Twin Peaks (when Coop interrogates Mike, episode before Maddie is killed) that Coop, or anyone, actively seeks answers from one of the spirits - in other words, they've hauled in someone who actually KNEW the killer for the first time, except that the killer is an alien (of sorts). > >However, note that there are some differences here. Correct - and this is in keeping with my idea on Mrs Tremond and Her "Grandson" as I explained just above ^ The > >relationship between the MFAP and Mike is somewhat confusing. Agreed. Some of > >what is presented identifies MFAP with Mike's arm while the OAM is > >identified with the rest of Mike. I see it as simpler than this tho. When MIKE and BOB were partners, actively seeking out and terrorizing humans to drain them of FIRE, they were the equivalent of drunks - addicted to the FIRE in people. They were supposed to be gathering the ambient garmonbozia - fear and suffering - that humans gave off. But they found they could take more than that - and it was ecstasy. They took more than the fear and suffering of humans, they took joy and happiness and everything -- FIRE. Then MIKE saw the error of his ways, got on the wagon and took his arm off. Perhaps this is the arm MIKE's kind use to gather the garmonbozia - remember BOB exiting glastonbury grove that firsst time, arm first? Like that. That arm remained personified as the LMFAP in the Lodge world. So perhaps the arm is still a little malevolant, but the rest of MIKE is a reformed alcoholic. Hm... This is confusing! :-) I suspect that part of what is going > >on is that OAM and MFAP stem from the beginnings of TP while the others > >evolved later and may reflect some revisionist thinking. By Lynch, you mean? I don't see it that way at all: I think we're being shown examples of different "characters" of BOB's kind, and all of them are characters designed to give us more knowledge - incrementally - of the mythology actively involved with humans in Twin Peaks. > >-Rich Haller Shortly thereafter, the health of Annie Blackburn still in question, the behavior of Special Agent Dale Cooper was noticed __________________________to have changed.
