FTP information (long) etpma@levels.unisa.edu.au 1991-10-29 18:36
This is a brief list of what is available on the anonymous FTP site at the
University of South Australia. The address of the Site is:

  audrey.levels.unisa.edu.au [130.220.16.88] directory /pub/twin-peaks

By the way, the machine 'audrey' was named after the character in TP. It is
NOT a coincidence, whatever you may think :-)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In response to lots of questions, here's the pocket tutorial on how to use
anonymous FTP from the 'cribsheet'.

Start up FTP and at its prompt ("ftp>") say "open 130.220.16.88" . If you
connect successfully you'll be asked for name and password. For name say
"anonymous" and for password use your net address, e.g. I would type
"peter@audrey.levels.unisa.edu.au"

Now, say "cd /pub/twin-peaks" . FTP has help (for most implementations you
type "?" or "h"), but the commands you need are these:

  ls brief listing
  dir long listing
cd change directory on the remote machine
lcd change directory on your local machine
get <name> copy a remote file <name> to the current directory on
               your local disk
binary need to say this for other than text files (FTP responds,
               mysteriously, "Mode set to I")
  quit close connection and exit

That's it, enjoy. The large world of anonymous FTP is now open to you.

SOUNDS:

Far too many sounds to list here, in both Sun uLaw and MacRecorder
formats. Also included in the archive is a player for the Mac Sounds,
as well as a converter from Mac to Sun format.

HYPERCARD STACKS:

There are two stacks TPBSCompanion and TPstack. The TPstack is basically a
collection of sounds with its own player, while the TPBSCompanion illustrates
the relationship between characters and gives details on each person.

There's a lot more information in the README files scattered throughout
the archive. If you need some help don't hesitate to send me mail.

Re: A discussion of Allusions... awalsh@mta.ca 1991-10-29 19:03
I like the concept. I am also an Arthurian freak, and finding a link
between Cooper and Arthur is a vision from God. Hallelueah.

One other thing, fill me in here. Sutherland is in "FIRE"? NO WAY! Is
this a rumor or is it for real? Is the movie gonna be before AND after
the finale, or just before? Do we know for sure? Is anything real?

GIFs ripped our flesh xrjdm@twinpeaks.GSFC.NASA.gov (Joseph D. McMahon) 1991-10-30 08:13
I believe that this is the way this all happened:

1) I mentioned that I had had trouble getting the GIF files from audrey.
2) Several people said "GIF files? What GIF files?"
3) Yet another person said "These GIF files" and posted them.

A case of good will and either not thinking of or not being aware of the
results of megapostings.

Arthurian legend, etc. traveler@uflorida.cis.ufl.EDU 1991-10-30 09:26
Thanks to all the people who provided that fascinating
Arthurian background info (Glastonbury, Avalon, etc.).
It seems to me a certain Arthurian interpretation is
quite valid for the "current" (i.e., at the end of the
finale) state of affairs in Twin Peaks. The hero has
journeyed to a magical realm, and doesn't seem to be
coming back any time soon. What do you want to bet that
some where around 2015, David Lynch finally does a Peaks
sequel that wraps everything up? The whole 25-years bit
was actually present from early on in the series' creation.
If I'm not mistaken, there is a scene at the end of the
European movie that takes place in the Waiting Room (this
scene was used as the dream sequence in one of the first
season episodes), and we see Laura, Cooper as an older man, etc.
But one thing that is in this scene that was NOT in the
same scene when it was shown in the U.S. is a caption at
the beginning: "25 Years Later."

Picture this: It is 25 years later. Cooper's doppelganger,
which emerged from the Black Lodge in the last episode,
has impersonated him for 2 1/2 decades, wreaking havoc in
the name of BOB--or, the doppleganger was captured and put
into a mental institution (people believing it was an insane
Cooper)--OR, it was somehow killed. NOW, perhaps due to
astrological influences, the real Cooper, maybe with the
real Laura, returns to this world. And just in time, for
Twin Peaks is once again in great danger, for some reason...

Truman: "Coop! Is it really you?"
Cooper: "Good to see you again, Harry. Just point me
toward some nice hot coffee, and I'll explain everything..."

The secret sign of the bookhouse boys is made by brushing one's finger
along one's *temple*, not one's nose...

Could you please post it directly to me instead of here, if possible.

You are correct. Laura's tap on the nose and the Bookhouse Boys' "hi sign"
are *not* the same.

As I remember it, Hawk said that anyone with insufficient courage would be
destroyed by the lodge. It certainly ties in with the idea that the key to
the black lodge is fear. At any rate, Cooper showed this failing when he
ran from the vision of Laura screaming in the lodge. If you ask me, he lost
his soul as a consequence of that moment of hesitation. Hard for diehard
Cooper fans to accept, I know, but he just wasn't prepared. Not even
Wyndham Earle was prepared, and he knew a lot more about the black lodge than
anybody else.

I know that Windham gets 'killed' among the ruckus in that sequence by Bob
(was it?)...but what is the difference in fates between Bob, Windham,
Coop, Laura? Has it been 25 years for Bob, or is he special? Is it that
Windham won't be back, but Coop, Bob, and Laura may? I am a bit confused
about this point...also, they have already filmed the upcoming movie
(theater? tv?) for TWIN PEAKS. One of those music awards (MTV?) programs
showed Chris Isaak accepting his award w/ the tp backdrop, and K. MacLaughlin
alongside him...anyone saw that? There was a suggestion amongst these files
that Lynch was coming back in 25 years...was that meant literally? If so,
I hope the bugs won't get at the film...I am dying to see what happened
to Audrey, et. al.

Indeed it is, but the farmland is decidedly flat and barely above
sea level. It was drained relatively recently, and before that would have
been impassable for much of the year and treacherously swampy even at the
height of summer. Compare the fen country, and the "Isle" of Ely.

Whether this has any relevance to Avalon or Peak^2, I wouldn't know.

Re: Request **spoilers** ASAHC@CUNYVM.BITNET 1991-10-31 10:44
IMHO, Cooper was destroyed by the Black Lodge because of lack of purity.

As he explained to Audrey, he fell in love with Earle's wife. We have no way o
fknowing if anything steamy resulted, but we can guess that it did. Therefore,
for sleeping with a married woman, he became too impure for the Lodge.

Just my $.02 US worth.

I can't tell if this was a joke, but... the movie is for theatrical
release although there have been rumours of a possible 2 hour
(tv) conclusion to the last episode.

Anyway, the MTV music awards showed a clip of Chris Isaak accepting his
award at the film site. Kyle was not there, but his chair was.

Also, someone suggested that Lynch will make another Twin Peaks movie
of some sort in 25 years somehow relating this to the 25 year gap
referred to in the black lodge scenes. This was speculation.

Good question. From my recollection, I remember Hawk saying that only a
person with a perfect soul could survive in the Black Lodge. I think that
Cooper is a good man, but had his failings. it seems to me that only Annie,
someone who lived so long in a monestary, had the total strnegth of moral
character to survive the Black Lodge.

Re: Help with THOSE GIF files (please) ep1d+@andrew.cmu.edu (Eric Thomas Pronko) 1991-10-31 19:42
Here at CMU there is a simple way to get those images to appear on the
screen. You must first put all the parts together, but you need to have
all the headers removed. This means all those things that say "cut
here," if it has those (I can't remember). You save the entire file
without the headers. You then type the command "cat
[filename]|uudecode." Actually I can't tell if that's right, because on
the dinosaur I'm typing this on that | character looks like a segmented
vertical bar. Anyway it should be a solid vertical bar. Once you've
done that, a new file will appear. This new file is whatever it says at
the top of the gif after begin 664, such as "twin-peaks_arrest.gif."
The final step is using a viewing program (here, it's called xview) to
see the image.

I hope that helps.

I don't remember any references to religious purity. Hawk said that
if one faces the lodge with "imperfect courage" it would "utterly
annihilate your soul." Success at the lodge seems (to me) to be governed more
by fear, love, and courage than purity.

Yup. Impurity has nothin' to do with it. As Rocky says, it's "imperfect courage" that is the problem and there is evidence in the last episode of that.

In any case, if we allow quasi official stuff like Laura's Diary and SADC's Autobiography, then it is clear from the latter that Coop and Caroline did commit adultery. That's why I like him for Lancelot and her for Guineviere with WE as Arthur. By the way, Arthur was no goody-goody. He got Merlin to cast a spell so that he could commit adultery himself with the wife of one of his enemies that he was infatuated with. Merlins price was a child (the offspring of that union?).

I just reviewed the episode where Cooper is introduced to the Bookhouse Boys.
At the RR Diner, the sign is the index finger pulled down the side of the
from the temple. Later, at the Bookhouse, there seems to be another sign,
almost a flicking from the eyebrow. In any case, apologies for associating
Laura's nose-tapping with the Bookhouse Boys.

Admit Cooper is dead (Dare I say it, "long live Bob") I almost cried and beat the %$#@*&!! out of the TV when I saw that.
Oh in comment to another article:
Cooper was too impure for the Lodge? No, I don't think so. He was in loce with Caroline, Windahm's wife. I read the Coop's autobiography and Windham Earl arranged it so that they could fall in love. Why? I do not know. Hell the man was insane don't ask me. Cooper's love for Caroline was pure and I think this outweighed any sins which are defined by our society.
Remember this is Twin Peaks we's talkin' here and only truly trancedental emanings hold true.

The Twin Peaks vs. Arthurian saga comparison has some interesting points. But I
believe that the spell request to Merlin above was actually from Uther Pendragon,
Arthur's father, and that the child Merlin claimed from the union was Arthur
himself.

Hmm! Interesting twist... it seems the Coop will have aged 25 years.
I don't have my copy of <My Life, My Tapes> handy, but if I recall, he's
in his mid 30's now, which would place him in his early 60's. Laura, on
the other hand, will not have aged at all. Come to think of it, it's
probable that Bob hasn't aged since young Leland knew "Mr Robertson",
so perhaps she has become one of them (possibly on the side of good --
I don't think it's been established whether in dying she escaped Bob
or succumbed to him). While Coop might come out as an older person in
the flesh, Laura might only be able to interact with people by
possessing them. What if, say, James returns and reunites with Donna,
and their daughter is possessed by Laura -- would her parents believe
her? What would she do? And would Laura and Coop know what had happened
in TP in the time that had passed?

What would the characters be doing?

I would guess that Sarah Palmer might have died by then, or, becoming
utterly strange, formed a less formal, more spiritual version of the
Bookhouse Boys with Major Briggs and the Log Lady.

The major would have retired from the military soon after the events of
the TV series, possibly to pursue spiritual avenues.

The One Armed Man would also hook up with the Major and the Log Lady, et al.

Harry and Hawk would continue at the station, with Hawk occasionally
advising Major Briggs.

Andy and Lucy would marry and continue as is.

Ben would, I think, after some upheaval, continue to run his local
businesses, but with a lower, more philanthropic profile.

His brother Jerry would take over One Eyed Jacks.

Catherine would continue to cause trouble. Come to think of it, Sylvia
Horne might well divorce Ben after word comes out as to what he'd been
up to, and Ben might well marry Catherine, cementing a potential financial
dynasty.

Norma would continue to run the diner as long as possible, probably well
past the 25 year mark.

Hank might well get killed doing something dumb in the midst of an
overly complicated scam.

Leo might stumble back into town, but would never recover from his wounds
and mistreatment. He would probably be institutionalised, or might stumble
into traffic.

Drs. Jacoby and Hayward would continue with their practices.

Gersten (sp?) Hayward would become the house pianist at the Great Northern's
Restaurant, and would sit in with the Girl Singer's band.

Albert Rosenfeld would probably never change, though he might discover he
had more in common with the Log Lady and the Major than he thought. Perhaps
he got this rough exterior from trying to avoid dealing with odd experiences
and encounters with the unexplainable?

Ronette Polaski would move far away from Twin Peaks, and drop out of touch
with everyone.

Johnny Horne wouldn't change much either.

Pierre Tremond would take over the management of Solitaire Canning and
Shipping.
It is happening again. It is happening again. It is happening again.

Arthur and Coop o5kj@vax5.cit.cornell.edu 1991-11-02 16:44

Rich:
Do be careful with confusing the whos of the Arthurian
legends. It was not Arthur Pendragon who contracted the sorcery of
Merlyn, it was his father Uther. Under magical guise ("The Charm of
Making", from the Excalibur flick (('Annal nathrack..')), Uther raped
one Igraine, at the time wife of the Earl of Cornwall. The offspring
was Arthur, who was taken by Merlyn (in the film, as payment) and
given unto the care of Sir Ector. Although the film diverges wildly
from here on out with respect to the Sir Thomas Malory telling (_The
Death of Arthur_, retold in _The Once and Future King_ by T.H.White),
it does cover this most important history rather well.
IMHO, a comparison of Cooper and Arthur is quite valid -- both
Arthur and Cooper eventually suffer from "their sins coming home to
roost", as White says. After all, Arthur did eventually sleep with his
own sister Morgause, and Coop did sleep with WE's wife Caroline.
Even if they committed these acts unaware of the inherent evil, this
counts for nothing in tragedy where "innocence is not enough".
TP and the Arthurian legend also share the immortal quality of
true Aristotelian tragedy: the evil will get what they deserve, and
the good will meet with extraordinary bad luck.

I'd like to suggest that alt.binaries.pictures or some other similar
newsgroup would be a better place to post these. Personally, I get alt.tv.twin-peaks
on my home machine and I would rather avoid the connect charges incurred
by the transfer of large amounts of GIF data. I have nothing against
posting these somewhere, but I think that a.tv.t-p is basically a discussion-type
newsgroup; it might be better to only a notice here and the actual GIF
files elsewhere.

The song is a Glenn Miller classic and I believe the title refers to a

The movie you are talking about is Wes Craven's "People Under The Stairs".
Let's say that it is the kind of movie that David Lynch might have made
if he was under the influence of some illicit substance.

Excellent performances from both Everett and Wendie. Never thought I would
see "Nadine" or "Big Ed" as sadistic child-rearers. I kept thinking -
did Wes Craven watch "Twin Peaks" or what.

And by the way, it can be seen by some as scary - but my friends and I just
laughed through the last 25 minutes of the movie.

Twim Peaks Move info. etc. jasonhal@girtab.usc.edu (Jason Hall) 1991-11-03 16:24
Some of this info might be old:

1. The movie is going to take place two years before the show and then the last
seven days of Laura Palmer's life. It is also supposed to touch upon the
wierdness at the end of the last cliffhanger episode.

2. Laura will be the main character, but Cooper will still be in it. Maybe
they will show the Cooper/Windom Earle/Caroline stuff.

3. Audry will not be in it and Donna has been recast, both because of previous
committments. This is fact because Catherine Coulsine (sp?) visited USC
and someone who saw her told me she said this.

4. She also hinted that after the movie, it might be returning to television.

5. Casting: Harry Dean Stanton, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris Isaac, and David Bowie
who is supposedly flaying a fed. Maybe the others are as well.
You can't have too many F.B.I. guys in the movie.

6. It has finished filming and is going to be released in March. (So said on
E!)

I have scripts to the pilot and fist, second, and sixth hour episodes, and the tenth episode of the second season. Many scenes were changed and cut out.
I also had pages of script fromt the first hour of the two hour finale as well
as a complete shooting script from the second hour with all the wierd lodge
stuff. The kicker is I had these two months before the episdoe aired. A
friend of mine had a friend who did lighting and he somehow got them. Many
things were omitted from the final episode unfortunately. More on that next
time.

Good and *bad* news about episodes on LaserDisc fuzzbox@world.std.com (jason e bilsky) 1991-11-03 21:23
I just checked into my LaserDisc buyer for the latest news about
getting the episodes on disc. There's good news and bad news....
There is going to be a boxed set of all 29 episodes on disc.
The bad news is that as of now, they are only going to be available
in Japan, probably with Japanese subtitles. The worse news is that
importing them brings up the cost t about *SIX HUNDRED* dollarss.

As soon as i heard they were going to be available, I asked to
place a preorder. Then they told me the price. I picked up my
jaw and decided to wait. Does anybody want to call worldvision
productions to find out an update on Discs in the US?

I figure that the Euro pilot episode took about a year to get here.
I just don't want to wait that long.......

subject: tp trivia

Has anyone seen the episodes from "Wiseguy" which was about a
place called "Lynchborough", serial killer, and the line "Let
your smile be your umbrella." being used? This same line was
used in Twin Peaks. I only caught bits of two episodes on this
theme/story line. Other details: A deputy turned out to be the
killer, who killed himself. There was something about a
"Sardonicus" (sp could be wrong) old movie obsession. Is there such
a movie for real? Is there any more soaps/serials that parodies
TP just as TP did to them?

Twin-peaks == David Lynch justified ?? tolk@opal.cs.tu-berlin.de (Robert Tolksdorf) 1991-11-04 08:56
After reading the tp-timeline, I am wondering wether it is justified
to identify twin-peaks with David Lynch. Considering the number of directors
involved and the aesthetical differences in their work and their
different history (coming from film or tv), I think we should
not speak of tp in general as being a work of Lynch.

Does anyone know more about the production process of tp, e.g. was
Lynch involved in all episodes (e.g. in postproduction) or how
much of the script was written by Lynch and how much by Frost ??

Are you sure about this? If the movie EXCALIBUR is to be trusted as an
accurate retelling of the Arthurian legends, it was Arthur's FATHER (Uther?)
who "got Merlin to cast a spell so he could commit adultery" and ARTHUR who
was the offspring of that union.

Re: Lynchborough awalsh@mta.ca 1991-11-04 14:33
I am an ardent Wiseguy fan, and yes, I remember seeing that series.
Vinnie went undercover as a deputy to investigate the murders. The
main suspect was a the mayor, a very wierd hermit who was attached
to the film "Sardonicus." He knew it word for word. It ended up
that he was obsessed with eternal life and was about to finance
a hospital for the area where cryogenic experiments would be
performed. He already had both his parents in stasis in cylinders in
their crypt. It was very freaky. I hadn't thought of it as a parody
of TP, and I think that it may have even preceded the show itself.
Wiseguy was a great show. The Sonny Steelegrave saga was some of the
best television ever to hit the boob toob. It was different, just
like TP, but it lost its edge and died two years ago without its star.
Damn. Just like the general american viewing public to give up on
shows that make them think. Just like TP.

See ya in March '92 in the movie houses.

Extra stuff in TP scripts jasonhal@girtab.usc.edu (Jason Hall) 1991-11-04 18:23
Here is the extra stuff that is in the Twin Peaks scripts that many of you
have written me about. Now I will tell you...

First, however, to the people that have been commenting on those Wiseguy
episodes with the similiar TP plots. I heard that someone involved with
Wiseguy got their hands on the pilot script for Twin Peaks and that is what
they based the episodes on. I mean come on,the town is named after David Lynch

Now, on to the scripts. The first two hour episode is referred to as "pilot"
and the second show (the first hour show) is referred to as episode #001,
second hour show as episode #002 and so on, so not to create confusion, this is
how I will refer to them. I am not going to write every different word used,
but I will tell you all the major differences. This is going to be a long one
so you all better thank me!

Pilot: revised first draft-December 7, 1988.
Harry Truman's name was at first Dan Steadman (thank god they changed it)
Tommy "The Hawk" Hill as originally a black man named Bernie Hill (same as
above)
Josie was originally Giovana, an italian women (so it would have been the mofia instead of the yakuza)
Ronnette's name was Sharon
Cooper talks into a microphone attached to a recorder
The road house is called Hemingways.
cooper whistles "Rapsidy in Blue"
Sharrif gets a call from Giovana (Josie) about a prowler before he goes up
there (obviously an excuse)
Mrs. Palmer doesn't have a vision at the end, the hand is only shown taking the
necklace.

Episode #001 1st-July 12, 1989, 2nd-Aug. 10, 1989 3rd-Aug. 18, 1989
There is a little unimportant dialogue about Lucy ordering donuts.
As Lucy and Andy pull exit the donut shop, Harry pulls up:

Harry: Can I give you three a lift?
Lucy: But shariff, there's only two of us.
Harry and Andy look at each other

Little extra dialogue with Coop and Audry between do you like my ring and do
your palms ever itch.

A:Do you like my ring?
C:It's very nice.
A:My father bought it for me. My father was crazy about Laura. He bought her a
pony when she was nine, but he let her father say it was from him. Its name
was Troy. Do your palms ever itch.

When Norma picks up Shelly, Shelly gets into the car:
N:Leo sure keeps that truck up, doesn't he?
S:He sure does.
N:(see's Shelly's condition) We're a couple a'characters, aren't we Shelly?
S:Norma, you said a mouthful.
N:Guys...
S:Guys...
N:You hear what happened at the Roadhouse last night?
S:No.
N:Big fight. Bobby Briggs hit Ed Hurley with some brass knuckles--
S:Bobby hit Ed? Weird.
They look at each other, each knowing the other's secret but not saying so.
N:Ed's got a concussion. Then Bobby and Mike got into it with the Bookhouse
Boys, took two patrol cars to break it up. Bobby and Mike're probably still
in jail.
S:Guys...
N:Guys.

Funeral arrangements are made and Jerry Horne comes home an episode early.
Leland:...Palmer, P-A-L-M-E-R...yes, that's correct, my daughter...her name
was Laura...I'm calling to make the arrangements, the funeral, everthing, I
want everything taken care of, I don't care how much it costs and if you don't
mind, I'd prefer that we not even discuss money...
Ben Horne listens in the hallway.
L:...I don't understand the question...what's the difference? What do you
mean "leak"...seepage? I think I-- (loses it, almost a moan) --no, don't,
(screams) DON'T TELL ME!!!DON'T TELL ME!!!
He pushes all away form him on desk, goes to stereo and turns on modern jazz
quartet record, 9/4 time, as loud as it can go. Ben goes to L's secretary.
B:Take him to the lounge and call Dr. Jacoby.
She does. Ben goes turns down music and picks up phone.
B:This is Benjamin Horne, who am I speaking to? ...fine...mahogany and teak?
well, you can forget that, Mr. Formaldehyde, I'm picking up the tab here and
you vampires are not taking a bite out of my checkbook in order to exploit my
colleague's tragedy...start thinking lead. (slams phone and Jerry enters)
Routine with bellhops getting sandwhich.
J:What's the matter with Leland? Looks like somebody shot his dog.
Rest of conversation is pretty much same as it aired.

Cooper interrogates Mike before he and Bobby are released.
C:So tell me MIke, what are you doing hanging around with a guy like Bobby
Briggs?
M:he's my friend.
C:You don't seem like such a bad kid to me, but Bobby Briggs could drag you
down straight to hell. How long has Donna Hayward been your girlfriend?
M:Around two years.
C:Why were you screamin at her and roughing her up last night at the Roadhouse?
M:That's between her and me.
C:Between you and her or you, her and James Hurley?
M:What's that supposed to mean?
C:You guys were out looking for James last night--
M:That's right, he was fooling around with Laura, nest thing we know she's dead and he's out fooling around with Donna.
C:You couldn't find James so you picked a fight with his gang instead.
M:They started it.
C:AFter Bobby decked Ed Hurley with a pair of brass knuckles.
M:He was defending himself--look, I already spent a night in jail, are you
charging me with something?
C:Settle down there punk. I could make one phone call anbd you'd go do far
away God couldn't find you. (Cooper smiles, Mike gets the picture, Bobby enter

Josie has a dog named Koro and Coop knows it is Japanese for something, but
can't remember.

Coop talkes with Jacoby about Johnny Horne.
J:I can't get over it. He just sits ther day after day, I've never seen
anything like it.
C:Dr. Jacoby, how old is Johnny Horne?
J:27 going on six. (laughs)
Truman:And you've been treating him for how long?
J:Treating him? Well, with Johnny it's not so much a question of treating him--
C:I understand Laura Palmer was his tutor.
J:Mondy, Wed,and Fri,after school. Those were the same days I'd come to see
Johnny and his mother. Laura was Johnny's favorite. He knew which day it was,
too, he'd stand just like that, waiting for her.
C:Does Johnny get out much?
J:Sure, after his schoolwork...Laura would take him out on the grounds hunting
for rubber buffalo with his little sunction cupped bow and arrow set. some
afternoons he'd bag the limit.
T:Was she here on Wednesday afternoon?
J:yes she was. I sat in with them. She read him a story.
C What story was that?
J:Isn't that interesting. It was Sleeping Beauty.
C:You said Laura was a patient of yours as well.
J:Yes.but of course all of that information dwells in the land of client confidentiallity. (pulls coin out of Coop's ear) Johnny loves that trick. he thinks
we found over $400 back there.

Sarah's vision is of Bob running towards us, not at the edge of the bed.

Cooper talking to Norma in diner when order pie (extra lines)
C:I understand yoiu husband, O.Henry Jennings is serving 27 months in the state
prison for manslaughter.
N:Yes he is. I also have a cousin named Sue who runs a beuty shop in downtown
Butte, Montana.
After cooper tries pie he says, "Give me a pen and paper ,I have to write a
poem about this pie."

Laura's tape has a differnt message from Laura and Jacoby doesn't pull out
the necklace:
L:you're always bugging me to tell you what my dreams are, let me tell you]
about this one i had last night. it was a doozy: I was in a strange room
and there was this little man and this other older man I'd never seen before
either, but they both seemed to know me..there was music.. and I was telling
tall my secrets to the older man. End of episode.

I gonna take a break. More very soon.

Jason's continuing tales on unused TP script jasonhal@girtab.usc.edu (Jason Hall) 1991-11-04 18:50
I'm back. Now for episode #002. (the one with the dream at the end)

Audry's note says, "Have you looked into one-eyed jacks" In the last script,
she hears Jerry and Ben talking about it.

Rock throwing scene:
Coop asks Diane to look up word Koro, Josie's dog, he believes the word
is Mandarin (DOES ANYONE KOW WHAT THIS WORD MEANS)
Hawk comments that the sixty feet six inches is the distance from home plate
to the pitcher's mound (pretty cool, huh?)
Coop notes:'In addition, under the nail on the ring finger of the left hand of Teresa BAnks, the girl who was murdered last year, we discovered the letter T.
Joey Paulson is on the list.
I have the lines from invotaion to love but I'll wait until another time.
Small extra conversation between Coop and Truman, not really pertinant.

Convo between Coop and Ben and Jerry
C:Mr. Horne? Benjamine Horne.
B:Agent Cooper I presume.
C:FBI.
B:This is my brother Jerry.
J:Happy to make your acquaintence.
C:I must say this is one handsome and comfortable hotel you have here, gentleman.
B:Thank you. We aim to please.
C:Do you get a lot of the vacation dollar up this way?
B:yes we do, but of course never as much as one would like.
J: Nothing a large resort wouldn't fix.
C: A large resort. Is that Jerry with a "J"?
J:Yes it is.
C: I believe I've met your daughter, Mr. Horne. What a charming and attractive girl. (MY PERSONAL NOTE; ANYONE ELSE THINK IT WAS STUPID JUST TO DROP THE COOP
AND AUDRY ROMANCE. I REALLY HATED THE COWBOY GUY. COOP AND AUDRY MADE A PERFECT WIERD COUPLE)
B:Audry?
C:You must be very proud. Well I'll say goodnight. Nice to ahve met you both.
B:Sleep well.
C:I will, The bed is almost exactly the right degree of firmness.
Both B and J think Coop is weird.

Coop tells Diane to look into Jerry Horne as well as Leo and Jacoby.
Coopers dream starts and it begins with Sarag having a vision of Bob at the
end of Laura's bed. The rest of the dream is exactly like the European ending.
That is why when Coop describes his dream, it is more like the Europe end
than the dream we saw. (Anyone ever wonder what the red stitches were?)

Now, here is the exact wording of the peom:
Through the darkness of futures past,
the magician longs to see,
one chance out between two worlds...
fire, walk with me...

I am going to take a break and eat. Back later or tomorrow. Next time:
Episdoe #006 (one before finale) and 10th episode of second season.
after that...the director's script of the final episode and cut dialogue
from it!

You better be enjoying this! My fingers are tired!

} Has anyone seen the episodes from "Wiseguy" which was about a place

Yes, I saw them back when they were first on. I thought they were just
delightfully weird. Unfortunately, the show was having problems with
Ken Wahl at the time, and a lot of kludging had to be done to bring in
the character of Roger Lacocco. Not bad in itself, but it made the
scripting seem very patched.

The odd thing was that this was a pastiche of TWIN PEAKS that appeared
before TP hit the airwaves. The TP pilot had actually been shot quite
a while before it was broadcast, and a lot of industry people were
familiar with it; thus the pastiche appeared before the original.

It's also worth noting that one of the writers of this arc was Robert
Engels, who went on to be one of the principal writers on TP.

} There was something about a "Sardonicus" (sp could be wrong) old
} movie obsession. Is there such a movie for real?

Yes, the movie is real. The title is DR. SARDONICUS, and it was made
by William Castle in 1961.

Sight & Sound's latest Laserflash lists as forthcoming from Japan a boxed
set of all 29 episodes (not including the pilot) of TWIN PEAKS.

The bad news is that the list price is 61800 Yen, or about $600+. On the
other hand, that's about $20 per one-hour episode, which isn't really all
that bad a deal. It's just an awful big bite to take all at once.

   Pilot: revised first draft-December 7, 1988.

Tommy "The Hawk" Hill as originally a black man named Bernie Hill (same as
   above)

Was it really Bernie and not Barnie/Barnie? Barnie Hill was the
(black) husband of Betty Hill, the famous couple who claimed to have
been abducted by a UFO. It would have been appropriate, what with
the Project Blue Book sub-plot (if they had had that in mind at the
time of the creation of the pilot script).

Well, it's a way of pointing out that Andy is confused, too. He's
confusing sperm with sperm whales, and somehow thinks contributing

hesitate to imagine the connection that Andy must have formed.

By the way, is Twin Peaks in the Netherlands shown subtitled or

Jason's continues the tales of the untold scripts jasonhal@girtab.usc.edu (Jason Hall) 1991-11-05 18:35
I am back once again. Everyones thank yous were greatly appreciated.
Now it is time for episode #006. If you remember correctly, the previous
episode ends with Coop entering his room and Audry is in his bed. The next
show started with Coop sitting on the edge of the bed and them talking. It was
a little different in the original script. (*Note to person asking if the
writers had in mind the idea of UFO's and the Black and White Lodge in the
beginning, the answer is no. If you look closely, the floor of the red room
in Cooper's dream is zig-zag with two different shades of brown. The floor in
the red room in the final epised is changed to black and white zig zags for
the Black and White Lodge. You can tell they bent the story a little to make
it fit the new idea they had of the black and white lodge*)

Episode #006
First Draft Nov. 3.1989
2nd Nov.8
3rd Nov. 16
4th Nov.17
5th Nov. 18

The episode does not begin with Coop and her talking that night in his room.
It begins with them already at breakfast the next morning.

Camera follows Waitress Truy as she crosses the dining room floor and sets
down two plates stacked with griddlecakes and ham, two glasses of orange
juice, two cups of coffee, and a small ceramic pitcher of maple syrup. Another
angle reveals special agen Dale cooper and audrey horne.
C:syrup?
A:thank you.
C:sugar?
A:just a little
C:good juice.
A:(loving every shared moment) Do you eat the same thing every day?
C:when I find i like something, I stick with it.
A:me too.
(Audrey levels a loving smile his way. Coop never looks up from his food)
A:(trying to get his attention) I'm sort of excited.
C:big test at school?
A:Not that I know of. (beat) It's my first day at work. I got a job.
C:Where?
A:That's a secret.
C:audrey, a secret is a dangerous thing.
A:Do you have any?
C: (simply) No.
A:(disappointed) Oh. (beat) But Laura did, didn't she?
C: Laura was full of secrets.
(Audrey just looks of Cooper, a sigh in her heart. She's never been in
love before)
A:Agent Cooper?
C:Hmm?
A:I'm going to help you learn all of Laura's secrets. We'll learn them together
(Cooper finally looks up from his breakfast, sees the adoring expression on
her face)
C:Stick to your homework, Audrey. A high school diploma is nothing to sneeze
at.
(Audrey sees his concer, shakes it off. She will not be dissuaded.)
A:Homework's for kids. I'm a working girl now. (holding up pitcher) Syrup?

(*I guess they were going to let the audience wonder what happened between
them that night. I think it's obvious nothing did, and I kind of like this]
sequence better than the one used, except for the fact Coop is portrayed as
a more caring and nicer person in the scene used*)

When Audry looks in Battis's black book, both Ronette's and Laura's initials
are in it. (*it seems they rewrote to unfold the story more slowly, but I
think if they kept some of the things they ommitted, the show would have
made more complete sense. You never really find out Ben loved Laura until the
episode when the killer is revealed, unless you read the Diary. They never
really explained on the show the jelousy of Audrey of Laura and her father. I
think the show should have been able to be understood better by the people
who might not have read the extra books. OF, course I love the books.*)

Catherine has a conversation with Einer (the Norwegian), Ben and Jerry, and
ben tells einer that catherine is going to be Project manager of Ghostwood
estates.

Here is an interesting scene that was ommitted. It takes place after Audrey
leave another message for Coop and the time she slips the note under his door
before going to Jack's. Anyone ever notice that Audrey looks like she's been
crying when she slips the note under the door? Here's why... (*also, did any
one notice that the Asian man who checked in across the hall was the man
who was with Catherine when she was disguiesed as an oriental business man.
that means Catherine had the plan of disguising herself before the mill fire.*)
Now for the omitted scene.
Audry walks down hall and hears her mom, johnny, and jacoby.
johnny:Ahoooooh!
m:Johnny,please-
J:let me handle this, MRs. HOrne, Johnny listen to me-\
johnny:Ahoooooh!
(Audry reacts, wonders. she steps to the small secret doorway, opens it and
enters)
J:I want you to listen to me, partner. We're partners aren't we pal? Aren't we?
Laura's not coming back, Johnny. She's gone to someplace safe and warm. Where every stranger is a friend. and every friend greets you with a smile. All
those smiling faces make a kind of music, johnny. A song that starts deep
inside your heart, a song you knew all your life, but could never quite
remember the melody. Laura's hearing it now. She's singing for you and for me.
And no one will ever hurt her agian. (to mrs. horne) you mustn't blame yourself
m:I've told you this before, but I've never told you the entire truth. I've
been holding this inside for so long...when johnny fell. Johnny was nine.
Audrey was just a baby, crawling then. she was such an actife little thing.
we were standing at the top of the stairs, talking, Johnny and I. audrey tried
to stand up and pushed against johnny's leg. he took a step back onot one of
her toys and slipped and thenext thing i knew...johnny was falling down the
stairs...all the way down...he didn't just fall. Audrey pushed him.
(this is one secret Audrey wishes she never learned, she exits her hiding place
so does not hear the rest of the conversation)
J:sylvia, johnny's condition is not the result of a fall or a physical injury
of any kind. his faculties are intact. he has simply retreated to a world of
his own devising, a place where he feels safe. he's chosen to remain a child
demanding our care and attention. his fall had nothing to do with his current
condition and neither does Audrey.
m:but why?
J:i believe he made this choice in order to escape some emotional psycological
trauma from early childhood or perhaps infancy. and if I can unearth his
secret, i know i can bring johnny back to us agian. (johnny comprehends the
conversation and looks away)
(*so Audrey thinks she is responsible for Johnny's condition in the original
script and what would have been his trauma?*)

Waldo's original confession: (in the voice of Laura Palmer):
(*he said Laura, Laura earlier in the script*)
W:Stop it, Leo. That's not funny. I said stop. don't go there. don't go
there. don't go there. Leo, I'm not kidding. You're hurting me. Dammit,
I want you to stop. Please. Aaaaaaaargh!

Maddy originally tell Jacoby to come to Easter park at the gazeebo.
James say to her before he and Donna leave"you know what to do?"
she nods.

I'll post this now, and then type the next one. enjoy!

Jason again. Here is episode 2.010 (10th episode from the 2nd season)
1st sept. 27, 1990
2nd oct. 2
3rd oct 5
4th oct 10
final oct 12

this is the episode after the one where leland dies.

there is a little extra conversation between coop and harry, not too important

here are a few extra lines of the Briggs coop conversation at the end.
(*what ever happend to the hooded figure. we see him this episode and twice
another with the owl. i think he is mentioned in the final episodes director's
script*)

C:major, this is a fascinatinbg concept. the other side of love is not hate,
but fear?
M:absolutely. and fear is the absence of love.
C:for yourself as well.
M:all perceptions or conditions must begin with the self.
C:so when i let fear into my life, i'm not loving myself.
M:you are in direct contradiction to a state of loving acceptance; incapable
of it. direct denial.
C:major briggs, if i may ask a personal question...do you love yourself?
M:very much.
(coop is fascinated)
C:then it stands to reason that leland palmer didn't
M:one could draw that conclusion. there are power forces (etc.)
the rest is the same.

I am going to eat, back later or tommorrow, for what you all have been
waiting for, ommitted stuff from the final episode!

Jason's final installment of TP scritps jasonhal@girtab.usc.edu (Jason Hall) 1991-11-05 21:43
Ok, this should be the last of the different than what aired stuff i have

Remember I had this directors script for the last episdoe about two months
before it ever aired. But I gave it to a friend of mine to hold and did not
look at it till after the show so I would not ruin the surprise for myself. I
wonder how many of you could have resisted.

I have the cast call sheet for the last episode. Ray wise's call number is 13
and Bob's is 666. Pretty cool, huh? There is someone who is whited out on the
sheet (maybe because of scerecy?) but I think I know who it is. It's Josie,
because the sheet calls for a body double of her for the last episode. So she
was supposed to orignially be in it (maybe the scene was cut). Here is my
theory on Josie. Bob put her spirit into the wooden cabinet next to the bed.
In second to last episode (the one before the two hour (last 2 shows put
together) episode) There is a scene with ben in his office and the spooky
chime sounding music is playing, and ben suddenly turns around and sees
something behind him (we are never told what) but the scene cuts to Pete in the
lobby of the Great Nothern looking at a picture on the wooden wall, he says,
"Josie, I see your face..." I think Josie's spirit is trapped inside the Great
Nothern hotel (which is all made mostly of wood).

In the first hour (directed by Tim Hunter) at the end after Earle takes annie
a tape starts to play which coop listens to it playing troughout the roadhouse
its a message from Earle to Coop:

(*this would have been great! it was stupid of them to cut it*)

here is the director's (david lynch's) script for the final hour. it says
"tentative" at the top of each page. Wed. Feb 27, 1991

Scene 2-sheriff's station reception area
andy figures out it is a map
Scene3-sheriff's conference room
coop and truman figure out the map, place called glastonbury grove
scene 4-ed hurley's house
nadine returns to her normal self
Scene5-woods
pete's pickup stopped on the side of the road
scene6-martell's pickup
windom drags annie out of the truck into the woods
scene7-road in the woods
coop and truman find pete's truck
scene8-woods, glastonbury grove
earle and annie enter the circle of tweleve trees
scene9-woods
coop wants to continue his search alone
Scenes10,11,12,13,14-woods, glastonbury grove
lodge door opens, windom takes annie into it, truman sees cooper
enter the hole
scene15-woods, glastonbury grove
andy finds the note in the costume
(*I wonder what this is, it was obviously cut*)
scene16-earle's cabin
leo tries to better his position, does not gain anything
scene18-blue pine lodge
andrew pockets the key and replaces it with another
scene19-hayward house-living room
ben tells donna he is her father, gets knocked unconscious
(*i thought ben being her father was a dumb subplot, it's
like they had nothing better to do with the characters not
involved in the lodge/bob plot*)
scene20-black lodge
cooper looks for annie, sees guardian standing before him
(*ommitted, see there's the hooded figure, they should have shown him*)
scene21-motel reception
cooper turns ten years old, then sees his father
(*sounds cool, should have kept it*)
scene22-woods
briggs leads hawk through the woods, feels the drug has heightened
his senses (*ommitted, in actual show hawk brings briggs back, they
should have kept it the way they planned it would have been better*)
scene23-earle's cabin
leo sees hawk and briggs, let goes of the string
scene24-earle's cabin
hawk and briggs rush to leo's rescue
scene26-twin peaks savings and loan
audrey chains herself to the vault bars
scene27-tp s&l
andrew asks mibbler to help him find the safety deposit box that
matches the key
scene28-bank vault
andrew looks for the safety deposit box
scene29-tp s&l
pete finds andrew opening the box
scene30-trees
mibbler's glasses in the air landing on tree
scene31-woods, glastonbury grove
truman sits waiting, sees vision of woman holding shield and sword
(*ommitted, I would have loved this, it follows the arthur stuff*)
scene32-woods
various frightful visions
(*ommitted, man, what were they thinking?*)
scene33-black corridor
cooper sees his own identical self, sees two doors with windom and
annie in each
(*ommitted, just realize i wish all this ommitted stuff was in it*)
scene34-black corridor
earle enlightens coop he is in the black lodge
(*ommitted*)
scene35,36,37,38-red room
cooper sees vision of caroline that becomes annie, sees annie dead
in the arms of cooper double
scene39-black corridor
earle assures coop annie is alive, is looking for volunteer
(*black corridor ommitted*)
scene40-throne room
earle has a deal for coop to save annies life
(*throne room ommitted*)
scene41-woods, glastonbury grove
truman finds coop and annie in the grove unconscience
scene42-great nothern hotel, room 315
cooper regains consciousness, truman tells him annie is ok
scene43-cooper's bathroom
coop brushes his teeth sees bob

that's it. I loved the last episode, but it would have been so much better if
they kept it as orignially planned. The black coridors would have made more
sense than them all being red. It's cool they used to red room as the
waiting room. They shouldn't have ommitted the throne room. Wonder what it
would have been? It certainly would have pointed more towards the Arthur stuff.
It seems that in this script, the black lodge interior is a castle of some
sort. They should also have shown Josie and the hooded guardian. Whats the
point of show him (her?) in two other episodes but ommitting him from the last
one. Also, the woman with sheild and sword would have been really neat. Oh,
well. Maybe they're saving it for the movie, or the continuation of the
cliffhanger. Let me know what you all think about all this, and hoped you
enjoyed it all.

Jason hall
jasonhal@usc.edu
i don't think coop is dead, I think he's trapped in the black lodge and
his doppleganger has taken his place. he certainly couldn't be possessed by
bob, becasue the major pointed out coop was not suseptable to such evils. So
his doppleganger (maybe all dopplegangers are bob or possesses by him?) is
free in twin peaks...

Twin Peaks is subtitled (in fact nothing is being dubbed in Holland)

It is not to bad, there are some mistakes thou.

sons of Odin was translated as sons of Olden (this is a name not a god).

There is a species of whales here called sperm whales. It was just an

Don S. Davis in 21 Jump Street dnmneder@cs.ruu.nl (David van Nederveen Meerkerk) 1991-11-06 04:46
A few weeks ago I saw an episode of 21 Jump Street on the Dutch commercial
station RTL4. In it was Don S. Davis (Major Briggs) as a sort of executer.
A boy was convicted to death because of murdering a man named COOPER.
Also, the boy looked a bit like BOB, but then a few years younger (about 20).
Is this a coincidence?

Luckily, all foreign series (i.e. 90% of all series) are subtitled in
the Netherlands, so we don't have to hear John Wayne, saying
"Handen omhoog" (hands up...),

As for the "whale" dialogue, I don't remember how (or if?) they
translated it, as I usually only listen to the original version,
without bothering to read the subtitles.

need last few episodes on VCR alan@auad.acadiau.ca (Alan McKay) 1991-11-06 12:44
Hi, I am posting this message for my brother who lives in Japan.
A friend of his was sending him the Twin Peaks episodes on VCR
tape and he and his wife really became addicted. However, they
are missing a couple of the last ones, and he wants me to get
them for him. If anyone can help me, I'll pay you for a VCR
tape and the time it takes you to copy it. Here is an excerpt
from my brother's letter to tell you what he needs ...

"The last episode we've seen is the episode in which Josey
Packard dies. I don't want to say too much about the plot in
case you're interested in seeing the thing yourself, but the
last scene is with Josey and Thomas Eckart and Eckart and Josey
both end up dead. Agent Cooper enters the hotel room and the
last thing that happens is that Bob appears to Cooper in a
vision and says, "What happened to Josey?" Then the midget from
the dream appears on the bed dancing as before and there's some
special effects in which a wooden drawer knob takes on the shape
of a human face. This should be enough information. .... "

Note that he says he already has the final 2 hour episode, but
does not want to watch it until he sees whatever is missing in
between. He says he is not even sure how much is missing, but
would like to get it all. Thanks very much if you can help.

In an interview in "Empire" (a UK film magazine), Kyle Maclachlan stated
that David had very little to do with TP after the start. He said it
was mostly the actors and staff who did it. I'll dig out the interview

The "one chants out between two worlds" line was translated with "kans"
i.e. "chance". I suppose that that can't be considered too much of a goof
as the closed captions were needed to settle that dispute. Or are there
who still doubt that reading? To me there was need for a verb, not a noun

Jason here again. In case any of you didn't see my correct stating of the
Fire walk with me poem in my posts of all the extra script stuff, here it is:

Through the darkness of futures past,
The magician longs to see
One chance out between two worlds,
Fire, walk with me...

this is the real phrasing of it, it doesn't matter what the closed caption said
or what anyone else may have believed, this is the real wording, straight from
the actual script for the episode.

A few queries robbie@tasman.cc.utas.edu.au 1991-11-07 04:13
I am new to this newsgroup but have watched every episode up until the
deaths of Thomas and Josey (screened tonight 7/11/91 in Hobart).
Could anyone please send me a list of the main characters that have appeared
and the corresponding actor/actress names.
Also, I am interested to find out how many episodes we are behind the
States, though it may not be too many as the present episodes are 1991.
This contrasts with other soaps like Dallas which is still screening here
almost 3(?) years after it finished.
Finally, the appearance of Bob, the midget and the drawer knob imagery
all escape me at present. I am meant to understand their meaning or does
it become apparent at a later time.

Many thanks, Robbie McDonald.

You can probably order them from some Hollywood bookstores. There
is Script City, Hollywood Book and Poster, and at least two more the names

The episode your brother tells about was the last weeks episode of TP here
in Finland, and there'll be more this Sunday, but I quess I'm too far away...

You're in the same situation as we are in Finland with TP (or to be exact
we're 4 days ahead). To my knowledge and as you might have seen from earlier
postings, there are 4 one-hour episodes left and the "final" episode 2-hours.

And if you have the same situation with Dallas, tonight will be the final
episode here in Finland.

They translated it as "Ik houd van zaadplantjes", which means "I like
seedplants [is this an english word?]". In Dutch, sperm is also referred to as
seed (I think in English too).
We subtitle everything, except some children's movies or series, which are
dubbed.
