Much as I doubt what I'm about to suggest, Ms. Jones's testimony is hardly
impartial. She could have helped Eckhardt fake his death, just as Katherine
helped Andrew fake his. Certainly he was shot by Josie and could well have
died, so it would have had to have been an impromptu plan using their many HK
connections to pull it off. How they managed to get Eckhardt out of our
local police officers' collective grasp would be a sticky part of the puzzle.

Nah... Eckhardt's toast. //// Now for some ASCII "droarings"...

What is that gun doing there? ramos@aludra.usc.edu (Luis Ramos) 1991-04-09 23:51
IT WAS MS. JONE's GUN
Do you remember the gun which Harry tried to reach for while Ms. Jones was
strangling Harry on the bed. As we probably already know, he fails to get it
but manages to escape from her stranglehold by some other way. When I
rewatched the previous episode (3/28) and this episode (4/4) in sequence, I
noticed that it was Ms. Jones who placed that gun on the sidetable just before
she slipped into bed. In fact, she appeared to be most particular with the way
the gun was "arranged" on the sidetable (as if to make sure that it can be
conveniently grabbed from the bed) or was I just imagining it?

VCR JOCKS ALERT
I also observed some possibly sloppy editing during this scene. When she
bends over Harry for the first time and bends back up, the spaghetti strap of
her lingerie falls off her right shoulder. On a succeeding cut, the strap is
back up. Here's another one. If you watch the strangling closely, in one clip,
you will notice Ms. Jones thumb caught around the "string thing" as she
strangles him but in a succeeding clip it is not.

THE LIQUID WORKS BOTH WAYS
One final note. Most have posted that Harry saw Ms. Jones as Josie after
she applied that liquid to his lips. Shouldn't it work both ways? When she
applied the liquid to her own lips, could she have seen Harry as someone else
and was so horrified that she unexpectedly decides to strangle him.

WHO STOLE LAURA PALMER?
Body-snatchers have been making night raids in Auckland.

Blame it on TV 3's bizarre billboard campaign for the equally bizarre
serial Twin Peaks.

First one plastic wrapped mannequin was stolen from it's hoarding around
town. The someone spraypainted another billboard with an answer to
"who killed laura palmer"

Since then, 5 more mannequins stuck on billboards around the city have
been stolen...

For those still wondering what it's all about, the new serial - an offbeat
tale of murder, deception and double meanings in small town America
continues on TV 3 tonight.

So, TP is here in NZ..... ho hum. :)

I know posts get kind of scrambled, so forgive the lack of chronology, but
someone else's comment about a New Hampshire Stonehenge reminded me with
a jolt (!) that there is a Stonehenge-like arrangement of monoliths in the
state of Washington--it's visible from the Oregon side of the Columbia
River Gorge, on a kind of cliff. There is a mansion nearby, also visible (I
think both are open to the public, I just never drove on the non-interstate
road on the other side of the river--I know, I know). Both were built
(legend says) by a rich man for his overseas bride, who died before she
could be presented with the gift. It's very haunting.

Just a thought.

It's toward the eastern (southeastern) part of the state.

TP Music - list anyone? (And owls...) rlifk@termix.termo.unit.no (Roar Larsen) 1991-04-10 05:39
Here in Norway we saw episode 2014 last Friday. (We'we been catching up
during your hiatus - heh, heh...)

I was pleased to notice that during the scene where Catherine reveals
Andrew not being dead, to Pete, the music in the background was by the most
famous Norwegian composer ever, Edvard Grieg (Piano Concerto in A minor).
(He lived and composed during the latest half of the 19th century, and
died early in this century.) (That's the second reference to Norway and
Norwegians on the show - hope it pisses the Swedish fans off... :-)

So now I'm wondering - has anyone got a list (or just an idea) of what
music has been used on the show that was not written/composed by
Lynch/Badalamenti? If not, would someone like to try and compile one?? (It
seems that just about every other aspect of TP is covered in some list or
another...)

P.S.
When we were away during the easter holidays, my girlfriend and I stayed
in a cabin where every night we could here the owls hooting in the woods
nearby - we were expecting Bob to drop by anytime, so we always kept a
bucket of water by the bed, to throw at him and scare him off... Anyone
know whether this would have worked, or were we just lulling ourselves
into a false feeling of safety?

In a recent post I explained what I think is the most probable and
interesting reasons and tie-ins to all of this. A short summary is
that the aliens were in Twin Peaks almost 20 years ago. People like
Gerard and WE(when working on Project BlueBook) became inhabited by evil
aliens. These may have been on the ship on purpose or as stowaways.
One of the things that happened (it has not been revealed why :-) is
that Ben did impregnate many local women. (Call it wild oats, call it
breeding experiments, who knows.) Now 20 years later the aliens have
returned. They detected increased activity from the evil aliens. Said
to themselves "Oh, s**t. They were left there!" (or an alien version
of this :-) They have now come back to help cooper get rid of the evil
aliens. WE is looking for the White Lodge (the alien base 20 years ago)
to gain the power that is there. He knew to look for the signs but
didn't exactly know what the signs would be.

Like the rest of Twin Peaks, Doc Hayward no doubt has a smutty, evil side.

No, it was Johnny Horne, Ben Horne's autistic son.

TP vs Home and Away in OZ muzzle@cs.uq.oz.au (Murray Chapman) 1991-04-10 07:57
Hi there

> > How does TP stack up against "Home and Away" (assuming it's still shown in
> > OZ)? In the UK "The Waltons" generally has better viewing figures than TP.

Hmmmm... let me see... Home and Away is shown at about 5:30 on a weekday...
No-one I know watches H&A..... Twin Peaks is regarded the same as most
of David Lynch's other work: either you love it or have never heard of it!

Some people think that it is "too weird", and those that missed the first
few episodes are completely lost..... The biggest rating TV show at the
moment in OZ is (I think) "The Bugs Bunny Show", because of the lady that
introduces it: Sophie Lee (an absolute HONEY, but a real fruitcake)...

Neighbours has really declined in popularity... I guess that most people
watch movies (no "Movie Channels" or any form of cable over here), or
sport... Australia vs the West Indies at cricket this week....

Hope this has been some help..

Oops! I guess that I shoud mention that TP screens at 9:30 on a Tuesday
night, against "Jake and The Fatman", and "In the Heat of the Night".

Roar in Norway asks about other non-Badalamenti music in TP.....

Well, some other 19th-century piano music crops up in an episode early in
the second season (at least, what constitutes the second season in the
US)--in the show where Leland and Sarah are having dinner at the
Haywards', the previously-unseen third Hayward daughter (Gersten) goes to
the piano and plays the opening section of Mendelssohn's Rondo
Capriccioso, quite a lovely thing. (Then she does some really impressive
boogie-woogie stuff at the very end, over the credits, but that probably
doesn't count.)

And there's whatever opera that is on the TV at Wally's when the cop goes
in there after whatsisname's fatal car crash.

And "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" from Leland.

Also the various big-band numbers that reduce Leland to hysteria, incl.
PEnnsylvania 6-500.

What about the various amateur-hour performances by a) James and Maddie and
Donna and b) JJ Wheeler (feh!)? they were so very forgettable that
I've.....well, forgotten whether they were doing anything recognizable or
not.

That's all that occurs to me at the moment.

I don't know for absolutely certain, but I'm pretty sure that at least
the instrumental of the song J&M&D sang was by Badalamenti, partly
because it keeps coming back as background music, and partly because
it just has that feel.

JJ sang a US western folk song, "Bury me not on the lone prairie."

The pieces Mary mentioned were all "in" the show, while the one Roar
mentioned was background music (at least I think so, from his
description). I think he was asking if there has been any other
non-Badalamenti *background* music. I would sort of expect that if
there had been, *somebody* on the net would have posted saying, "They
used my favorite piece by my favorite composer." On the other hand,
not too many Americans are familiar with Norwegian composers (so AB
could be stealing shamelessly and we'd never know).

True, but I'm reasonably certain I also heard somebody (Hawk, perhaps; if not
him, then Dale) mention an autopsy done on him (in addition, of course, to the
one on Josie). It's pretty hard to fake your own death and still get an

Actually, it seems to me that the "bird in flight with flames spurting
from its ass" is the stylized Amerind drawing of the Phoenix, which,
as we all know, dies in flames, only to rise again therefrom.->immortality.
And, for those of you who are concerned about the triangles becoming
diamonds, well, it seems to me that Coop was just doodling with the
figures and made something which was recognizable, and Annie knew.
Anyway, I find the whole TP emphasis on birds verrry interesting.
What say you?

I agree. Lynch clearly gives us the definitve Gordon Cole. All other
portrayals of this sensitive, misunderstood FBI man pale as Lynch
explores his psyche and soul. Forget the Mandy Patinkin Gordon Cole,
the Efram Zimbalist Jr., the Crispin Glover, and *especially* forget
the damn animated series! David Lynch *is* Gordon Cole.

TP on satellite larryy@Apple.COM (Larry Yaeger) 1991-04-10 14:39
When Global Television failed to transmit its Twin Peaks feed today at
10am, I panicked, but... after a few phone calls I was able to determine:

* The cause: Lynch/Frost were delivering the tapes late. Expected time
of arrival at last notice was 7pm, Toronto time. The show airs there at
  9pm!

* The cure: Current plans are to air TP on D1/04 (the usual) in its normal
broadcast time slot (9pm, Toronto time, Wednesday [today]; 6pm PDT).

If you care, I hope this reaches your news server in time!

TP-Stunt this Friday (HELP!) mt1z+@andrew.cmu.edu (Michael Bruce Tomblyn) 1991-04-10 15:25
Peaker Action, Friday, April 12~~

Here's what we're gonna do: Friday, all day, Peakers should call Mr. Zack
Manna, Director of Advertising, AT&T, at 212/605-5500. Get as far past the
receptionist as you can and leave the following message for Mr. Manna:

"I was watching Twin Peaks last night, and it was such a great show that I
wanted to call and thank you personally for being a sponsor. Have a nice day."

Please leave as close to this exact message as possible. This is all part
of a bigger plan which takes too long to explain. If you're a fan, have
faith and do it. Then E-mail me back, so we can measure the response.
This part is very important. Also, post this message everywhere you
can. Remember, this is coming down to the last few and most important
weeks of our campaign to save TP. Tell as many of your friends as
possible! Please take just a minute to do this. It will cost about a
dollar, and isn't it worth it? Remember the effectiveness of our plan a
few weeks back with Mr. Iger. Let's pump another 300,000!!!!!

Thanks, and keep Peaking.

Mike Tomblyn, Pine Weasel Project, COOP Pres. (Pittsburgh, PA)

Don't forget to e-mail me as soon as possible after calling and let me
know how close you got to Mr. Manna. If you make multiple calls, let me
know also.

Mike Tomblyn mt1z+@andrew.cmu.edu

PS: We should also make note in our call-ins and/or dealings with the media
that we are using AT&T as a symbol for all TP advertisers. We know who they
all are, etc., but in this way we avoid diffusion of our efforts. - FBC

The symbol at the top wasn't symmetric. I took it to be a flame,
as in "FIRE - Walk with me." That's what Andy's pick hit when
he was swinging at the owl, not the uppermost diamond.

TP in New Zealand edgleyd@ctl.co.nz (Diana Edgley) 1991-04-10 17:41
Just thought you'd be interested in hearing how Twin Peaks is doing down
here in NZ. The Pilot on Monday night took over 1/3 of the viewing audience,
not quite as much as Crocodile Dundee II screening on the opposing channel.
The next night, when we saw episodes 1 and 2 back-to-back, TP won it's time
slot quite convincingly :-)

The channel screening it had promoted TP more heavily than any TV show had
ever been promoted before in this country and it looks like it's worked!

*Damn* good show!

Well, I really meant Twin Peaks residents.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Coop had a dark side -- we just haven't
seen it yet.

It looked one of those "weather simulator" things to me (Wheeler's
"fixes" up the environment right?) -- but a hot-dog steamer sounds
just as good. The mystery here though is, if he had a hot-dog
steamer in his room, why would he call room service? Ah-HA! Wheeler's
up to something! I bet he killed Laura! -- oh yeah sorry, we already figured
that one out.

Annie grew up in Twin Peaks, right? From what Truman and Hawk said about Owl
Cave, it sounds like it must be a place that everyone has been to as
a kid at least--> therefore, it's not unreasonable to assume that Annie
also played there at times as a child and would be unlikely to forget
about it.

If James just left and never wrote to Donna again, we'd probably
have to see hours of Donna-mourns-James scenes. I'd say the postcard
was the lesser of evils.

Ok, start with the Major's tattoo. Turn the upper two triangles into
Margaret's mountains. Start doodling...make the bottom triangle into
a diamond, draw a few more diamonds, and...voila! Cooper's sketch.

The most apparent reference for chess games in literature is Lewis Caroll's
"Through the Looking Glass". The young Kurt may have read this story when he
was young.

And yes, even Dutchies watch TP !
